The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, says that there is no longer a need to mobilize 500,000 people.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, says that there is no longer a need to mobilize 500,000 people.

He said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

"After reviewing our internal resources and clarifying the combat strength of the Armed Forces, this figure was significantly reduced. We expect that we will have enough people capable of defending the Motherland. We are talking not only about the mobilized, but also about volunteers," Syrsky said.

According to him, the number of certain military units that do not take part in hostilities is currently being reviewed on the basis of an audit of their activities.

"This allowed us to free up thousands of servicemen and send them to combat units," Syrsky said.

At the same time, he added that it is necessary to refrain from extremes.

"All armies in the world have personnel who do not take part in hostilities, but provide combat units. This is an equally important part of the job. The war that we are forced to wage against the Russian invaders is a war of attrition, a war of logistics. Therefore, the importance of the effectiveness of rear units cannot be underestimated. We are talking about the system of providing troops with food and ammunition, about repair units, about medical facilities and much more. These people contribute to the effectiveness of hostilities," the commander-in-chief explained.

Syrskyi also stressed that those citizens who come to the army for mobilization do not immediately go to the front.

"With very special exceptions, for example, when a person already has combat experience, the vast majority of these people arrive at military training units and centers. As of February of this year, the number of people undergoing such training was 84% of the total number of mobilized. Only after such training can they be sent to replenish military units to restore their combat capability," he said.
