Most Ukrainians who are in Poland do not plan to stay there permanently.

Most Ukrainians who are in Poland do not plan to stay there permanently.

Almost half of the Ukrainians who are in Poland cannot decide on plans to return to Ukraine. The results of the survey show that one in five people wants to stay there forever. From December 2023 to March 2024, Gremi Personal interviewed 1150 Ukrainians in Poland, writes RBC-Ukraine

In particular, the results of the survey show:

  • difficult to decide – 43% of Ukrainians surveyed
  • plan to stay in Poland – 19%
  • will return to Ukraine within six months – 13%
  • will return within a year – 10%
  • will not return in the next 5 years – 15%

In April 2023, the agency conducted a similar study. Last year, 36% of Ukrainians planned to stay in Poland, 7% of respondents wanted to move from Poland to another country. 55% planned to return to Ukraine, of which 82% planned to return after the victory.

More details can be seen in the infographic.

Evgeny Kirichenko, founder of the international agency Gremi Personal, says:

Our research shows that the number of those who definitely planned to stay in Poland decreased by 17% compared to last year. This is a huge figure given the number of Ukrainians living in Poland. However, the issue of motivating people to return to their homeland is a "task with an asterisk" for the Ukrainian government, and most of all it is necessary to work with people who are hesitant in their decision

Ukrainians were also asked how long they had been in Poland. The results are as follows:

  • 36% came to Poland less than a year ago
  • 25% have been in Poland for 2 years
  • 15% from one to two years
  • 10% said about 3 years
  • 7% fell on 4 and 5 years
