A doctor-member of the MPC will appear in court.

According to the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office, the doctor "asked" for a $2,000 bribe for a fictitious disability to avoid conscription.

The Velykyi Bereznyi department of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office sent to the court an indictment against a psychiatrist of one of the district medical institutions on the fact of extortion and receipt of an improper benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In the course of the investigation, it was established that the doctor, who was a member of the military medical commission, demanded a bribe for "resolving the issue" of the preparation of documents for disability for a person liable for military service. In the future, this made it possible to avoid mobilization.

The amount of undue advantage was 2000 US dollars.

In the fall of 2023, the doctor, along with an advance payment of half of the total amount of funds, took the man's medical certificates for "study". He assured that he would draw up the documents necessary for deferment from mobilization and provide them to the citizen after paying the change.

At the beginning of January this year, law enforcement officers exposed and detained the suspect while receiving an improper benefit. During the pre-trial investigation, he was temporarily suspended from his post.

The investigation has now been completed, it was carried out by the Uzhhorod District Police Department with the operational support of the Regional Office of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Department of Strategic Investigations in Zakarpattia region of the State Investigative Service of the National Police of Ukraine.

This crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years, with confiscation of property.

Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and may not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proven in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
