Operatives of the Chop border guard detachment together with the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor's Office, dismantled a human trafficking channel operating in Zakarpattia.

"Directly at the state border, they detained a Hungarian citizen who was smuggling a 27-year-old Ukrainian woman to the EU. After crossing the state border, the man had to take the victim by car to the airport, from where they would fly to the Kingdom of Cambodia. Sexual exploitation awaited the girl there," the department said.
Law enforcement officers found that the 41-year-old foreigner met the girl through social networks and, taking advantage of her vulnerable state, persuaded her to work in brothels in Cambodia. Due to the large debt to the bank and the presence of a minor child, she was forced to agree.
"The trafficker and his victim were detained after they passed the control to leave Ukraine at the Kosyno checkpoint. Operatives of the Mukachevo detachment were also involved in the detention measures.
Urgent searches were conducted at the residence of the defendant, who currently lives in Ukraine, during which money, bank cards, draft records, etc., were seized. A car used as a means of committing a crime was also seized," the statement reads.
The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was served a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code "Trafficking in human beings or other illegal agreement with a person". The investigation is ongoing.
