In Haiti, authorities have declared a 72-hour state of emergency and a nighttime curfew in and around the capital due to a mass exodus of prisoners.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to BBC News.

A state of emergency was declared in the country after armed gangs stormed the capital's large prison in Port-au-Prince, killing at least 12 people and freeing about 4,000 prisoners.

The leaders of the groups are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who is outside the country.

As the newspaper notes, he went to Nairobi to discuss sending a multinational security force to Haiti under the leadership of Kenya.

A government statement said the gangs attacked two prisons, one in the capital and the other in nearby Croix-de-Bouquet.

They were captured by storm over the weekend. It is noted that among the detainees in Port-au-Prince were gang members accused of involvement in the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in 2021.
