The Ministry of Internal Affairs made a statement about increasing fines for traffic violations.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs made a statement about increasing fines for traffic violations.

As of the spring of 2024, Ukraine does not plan to increase fines for traffic violations. This statement was made in an interview by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Timchenko, writes Today.ua.

According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs does not plan to initiate an increase in fines for traffic violations. At the same time, he believes that fines for traffic violations in Ukraine are inadequate to fines in the European Union. That is, they are too small compared to fines in European countries.

Therefore, from the words of Leonid Timchenko, we can conclude that in the future fines for traffic violations in our country will be increased. Most likely, after the victory over the Russian occupiers.

It should be noted that in Ukraine there is a constant discussion of the need to increase the responsibility of drivers for traffic violations. In particular, the increase in certain fines and the introduction of new fines are being discussed.

Thus, draft law No. 11029, registered in the Verkhovna Rada in February 2024, proposes to introduce a new fine of 100 thousand rubles (currently UAH 1,700) for the use of tires that do not correspond to the season. That is, they want to fine drivers who drive on summer tires in winter and on winter tires in summer. In case of repeated such violation within one year, the amount of the fine will be from 200 to 500 non-taxable minimums (UAH 3,400 - 8,500) with deprivation of a driver's license for a period of 3 to 6 months.

In addition, Ukraine wants to introduce a fine for pedestrians with children for traffic violations. In May 2023, the Verkhovna Rada registered the relevant draft law No. 9289. But MPs have not yet considered it even in the first reading.
Draft law No. 9289 proposes to fine pedestrians 850 hryvnias or send them to community service for 20-40 hours for traffic violations (for example, crossing the road at a red traffic light) if there were children under the age of 16. It is expected that this will make adult pedestrians more responsible, and the number of accidents with children will decrease. At the same time, children will not follow a bad example from their relatives and acquaintances.
