"Golden eggs" on the eve of Easter: how will the wallets of Transcarpathians be hit and will there be anything to bring to the consecration?

A number of essential products continue to rise in price in the region, and eggs are one of them. Although now, their prices have crept down significantly - 4.50 on average per piece. At the same time, by Easter, one of the traditional products will increase in price to a record.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, eggs have been one of the most expensive in Ukraine. Their prices, which were growing every day,  were discussed on Facebook.

People wrote "that the eggs are from outer space", "they are carried by roosters", "they are golden". This year, although this product was not one of the most expensive, it was also not one of the cheapest. The cost of eggs in the region broke a record in December last year. At that time, they cost up to seven hryvnias apiece. A dozen eggs - 70 hryvnia. A tray of 30 pieces could be purchased from 210 hryvnia.

Last year, the cost of eggs in stores in the region was once again high. A jump in prices was observed in November.

People were indignant about this again.

Butter, which is also a must-have product of the Easter basket, has also risen in price. At the same time, a lot of spoiled products have appeared in stores , which they are trying to sell to ordinary buyers.

So you should carefully prepare the Easter basket.

What do the experts say and for what reason can eggs grow as Easter approaches?

The cost of eggs on the Ukrainian market decreased in March. Experts note that their price depends on many factors and they should rise in price closer to Easter.

As UCAB analyst Maksym Hopka and director of the economic discussion club Oleg Pendzin said in a commentary for Thepage, now a dozen chicken eggs of the first category "Kvochka" in supermarkets can be bought for 56 UAH, "Yasensvit" costs an average of 62 UAH. On the market, lower-quality eggs are sold even cheaper – for 48 UAH, and homemade eggs – 50 UAH per dozen.

"There has been no increase in the price of eggs since the beginning of 2024, it remains stable with a slight fluctuation of 2-3 UAH. On average, the cost for a dozen eggs is now 59-62 UAH," says Maksym Hopka.

Pendzyn explains that the cost of eggs is influenced by seasonal factors, in particular the productivity of laying hens in the spring and summer, as well as the volume of Ukrainian exports to the EU.

"Production volumes at our poultry farms are designed for significant exports. If the border blockade continues, and restrictions on exports are imposed by the European Commission, then the supply on the domestic market will increase, and prices may drop further," Pendzyn said.

According to experts, Ukrainians should expect a rise in the price of eggs closer to Easter, although, traditionally, after the holiday, the price should stabilize.
