"When police officers or representatives of the TCC come up and ask to show documents, you must first make sure that these persons have the authority and grounds for such actions. If at least one of these two points is missing, the requirement to present documents is illegal. And we are obliged to comply only with legal requirements," Volodymyr Krekoten explained.
The lawyer recommends that before presenting your own documents, you familiarize yourself with the police officer's service certificate. And ask the TCC employees to show the commandant's order and an identity document.
"The law clearly regulates the grounds for checking documents during martial law. And believe me, there is no norm that would allow you to do this only on the basis of the desire to find out your name and issue you a summons," the lawyer concluded.
