The Cross of Freedom medal was awarded: the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine of the OCU awarded the head of the Transcarpathian OTCC and SP (PHOTOS)

The awarding ceremony took place on April 7 during the opening of the reconstructed church of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine of St. Amphilochius of Pochaev and  the presentation of a certified copy of the Shroud of Turin, consecrated near the original, for commemoration.

A certified exact replica of the Shroud of Turin, confirmed by the Pontifical Institute, was brought from Italy.

"For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the Shroud of Turin of unprecedentedly accurate quality came to Ukraine. For the first time in history, she was recognized as the papal keeper of the Shroud. The canvas of the copy itself is unique, since for 60 years a company from Bergamo worked to find and select the grains of the flax that was used in the manufacture of the Shroud. After harvesting in 2020, the technology of weaving, making fiber and fabric was observed as much as possible. Each stage makes the copy extremely valuable," said Priest Andriy Susol.

During the liturgy, the guard of honor at the copy of the Shroud of Turin was carried by the military of the Transcarpathian OTCC and SP. As Bishop of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia Varsonofy said, the Shroud will be in the church until Easter Saturday. And after Easter, this copy will go to the front to the 128th Brigade. In the future, it will be exhibited once a year.

At the end of the liturgy, Bishop Varsonofy of Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia, on behalf of Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, handed over the medal "Cross of Freedom" to the head of the Transcarpathian OTCC and SP Andriy Savchuk, which is awarded for sacrificial service for the preservation of the Spirit of God, freedom and independence.
